Let’s not fool ourselves, we all suffer from bouts of depression from time to time, so next time you start feeling down, instead of feeling hopeless and consequently falling down more into depression, it’s time to elevate your emotions by following these simple rules that will make you feel better and enjoy a higher quality of life :
Talk to som
Depression can hit you hard, but you need to reach out, have at least one person you can talk to about what you are going through without worrying about judgments being made, this can be a parent, sibling, best friend, someone else who has the same condition, or a professional, just feeling understood can lift your spirits tremendously.
Make a difference:
Instead of suffering in silence, become more involved with people, reach out to someone who is going through a rough time, find a worthwhile association where you can volunteer and make a difference, everyone is dealing with something, knowing that will make you feel less alone.
Get yourself a pet:
While a pet won’t replace the company of real people, a dog or a cat can help you feel less alone.
Discover a new hobby or interest, Take a class, join a gym, and become involved in your local community. Life is much more vast and interesting outside of your head.
Avoid negative p
If certain people are unsupportive of your situation or even worse, accusing you of overreacting, consider whether these people should remain in your life? What exactly are they adding to it?
Remove as much stress from your life as possible. Consider practicing meditation for half an hour daily, just find a comfortable seat, close your eyes, and focus on your breath as you inhale and exhale, this will relax your mind, spirit, and body.
Get back to nature:
Nature seems to be the best medicine of all. If you live in a city, find a park and walk around, enjoying what nature has to offer, take a walk during your lunch hour, if you live in the country, communing with nature is even easier, it is a known fact that exposure to the sun will boost your mood.
